Leaving Canberra has also meant quitting my job. Until last Friday I was one of those government employees, and had been for over four years. I can't say I'm overly upset to be leaving. I needed a change, and a challenge, and my job wasn't giving me the opportunities I wanted. The mood is that opportunities here are not forthcoming, at least not for the next 2-3 years. So it was a good time to get away.
Finally, I said goodbye to my apartment yesterday (pictured below). It was a lovely little place, close to everything and comfortable. It was also reasonably soundproof, which helps when you're practicing opera singing on a regular basis. I'll miss it. The real estate agent told me that they haven't been able to find someone to move in to the apartment yet. Apparently the market is flooded with apartments for lease.
It seems everybody's leaving Canberra.
