Hi there, I'm Gerard.
In short, I'm a guy who has through some way or other, ended up involved in a number of different pursuits over the years. This website exists to collect the results of some of those pursuits in a single spot, partly for posterity, mostly for convenience.
In July 2013 I moved from my home country of Australia to the USA to undertake the MA/MBA program at Southern Methodist University. It was a bit of a change from my previous career, where I worked in the area of industrial program management. My undergraduate degree was in science, and I spent some time in materials research before moving into intellectual property.
After a brief stint in consulting in the USA, I moved back to Australia to lead the evaluation activities of the Australia Council for the Arts, where I designed and implemented a program evaluation framework for the agency. I have since returned to consulting, combining a head for numbers and hard data with a sensitivity for the needs and challenges of people involved in programs.
Creating art is a passion of mine. I'm a trained opera singer, and have sung in principal roles for the Canberra Opera and Operantics, and I'm heavily involved in delivering the young artist program for the Pacific Opera. I've also worked with a number of other companies and ensembles in Sydney and Canberra. I also paint, largely for pleasure, but I've had a few commissioned works now. My style loosely falls within the realm of geometric abstraction, usually working with acrylic on canvas. As well as this, my good friend and poet Josh Inman encouraged me some time ago to get back into writing and performing poetry, so I've written a few pieces.
Feel free to get in touch with me here.
